The Ordinary Brand | Still anything but Ordinary?
About a year ago I bought into the hype and bought a ton of products from the brand “The Ordinary”. Most of them I enjoy, some not so much. The brilliant thing about this cosmetic line is the price point; instead of added fluff and fancy packaging The Ordinary gives it to you straight. If you want a retinal, you got a retinal, if you need a caffeine eye serum, you got a caffeine eye serum; nothing more, nothing less. Below I break down all the products I purchased and some I may consider repurchasing. Surprisingly though, it’s been a year and I still have a lot of these products remaining.
Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%: This “Multi functional Brightening Formula” is supposed to be applied to the face in the morning and the evening to improve skin’s brightness and texture. I use it as a primer, it’s a thick consistency and my makeup goes over it nicely. I never noticed any difference in my skin but I do enjoy the idea of using a primer that is actually good for my skin, not just a base for makeup.
100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil: “Daily Support Formula for all skin Types” This product is as straight forward as it gets, it is a reasonably priced organic oil. I love oil, mostly for my hair, but I also like them on my face and bod,y and this rose oil is no exception. I initially used it at night as a moisturizer….I don’t know why I stopped, I’m going to go back to that. My favorite thing about this product besides the fact that it is simply a pure organic oil is that it is so convenient to travel with! I love the packaging, I never worry about it leaking in my suitcase, and it’s a great multi-functional item when you want to pack light.
Niacinamide 10% and Zinc 1%: “High Strength Vitamin and Mineral Blemish Formula”. The directions say to use this serum over the entire face morning and evening before moisturizing. I had good results using this as a spot treatment. Not only was it effective, but the product is colorless, so I wasn’t self conscious going to sleep with it on in front of my husband. It’s also easy to put a little on a trouble spot under makeup and go on about your day. I have been giving this product a break because my skin got used to it, but this is a product I would consider repurchasing.
The Not so good
AHA 30% and BHA 2% Peeling Solution: “10-minute Exfoliating Facial pH 3.6” I was most excited to use the mask because it seemed like the product everyone liked the most! The at home chemical peel for brighter skin! All this solution did for me was make my face dry and itchy. I tried it, tried it, and tried again, and the same result every time; nothing. I actually felt like every time I used it, I broke out a little the next day. My skin did not react well to the AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) or BHA (beta hydroxy acid) or both.
Caffeine Eye Treatment: “Reduces Appearance of Eye Contour Pigmentation and of Puffiness”. I have really bad under eye puffiness and have a difficult time finding products that actually de-puff and this was no exception. I had high hopes because of the caffeine, but it ultimately fell flat, and I saw no results.
Have you tried any products from The Ordinary? What are your favorites? Are you still using them and will you be repurchasing?
